The Tohoku earthquake and Tsunami
Japanese people suffered from the great earthquake and Tsunami this past March. The earth quake and Tsunami killed over 20,000 people near Sendai which is the north part of Japan. Actually, there was a lot of people killed by the Tsunami, the earthquake brought about the Tsunami because the scale, a magnitude of 9 was enormous. At my home place, the magnitude of 6, was the first time my town suffered from such a big earthquake. Hurricane Katrina killed over 1600 American people in 2006. We can see how the earth quake and the tsunami are terrible.
This was most enormous natural incident while I lived in Japan. This incident affected Japanese society pleiotropically. For example as an economic side, a lot of factory such as Toyota was broken and the production volume decreased seriously. Also the incident broke the nuclear reactor. That is to say, natural disaster brought about artificial disaster. Still now the stock of Tokyo Electronic Company which is most famous Japanese electronics company concerning nuclear reactor is down intensity because they had a responsibility to keep nuclear reactor safe but they couldn’t keep it safe and they lost the trust of stockholders. However the company was given salvation money from government.
Secondly, The British Red Cross received a lot of donations from all over the world to assist with relief funds to Japan. Especially, Taiwan donated 13 million dollars and America donated 9 million dollar. There were a lot of famous people who donated contribution privately. Lady Gaga also sent huge contribution for the Japanese disaster.
Thirdly, I would like to introduce how I experienced the aftermath of the earthquake. I faced some convenience stores which were vacant by buying up of goods even if my home place which is far from Sendai, and I saw also long line which were a lot of cars that wanted to charge gasoline because government planned to stop all of electronics on determined time and we couldn’t use train and so on. However, I don’t remember why I lined to charge gasoline obviously.
In conclusion, I was involved the panic and I lost my calm judging from the memory. We sent a wrong message on twitter. Human is easy to be influenced by wrong information especially in the panic situation. It is also social problem in this era. We always have to prepare for disaster by learning this lesson even if whatever happens next.
