The top conference between America and China

The New York Times reports that a conference between Mr. Xi Jinping, the Vice President of China and the top officials of the United States, including US President Obama and Vice President Biden, was held in Washington on Feb 15, 2012. The event was significant since Mr. Xi was being groomed to be elected as the President of China and the United States sees the need to cultivate such relationship with him as America’s interests in China broadens.  The initial discussion between the parties revolves between the two main points including: that China has committed acts that are deemed by the United States as unethical and the ongoing issue with between China and its provinces of Tibet and Xinjiang. During this conversation, American took an offensive attitude while the Chinese leader took a passive approach probably due to the correct points brought up by American officials against the Chinese issues which are ethically questionable in accordance to the global standards.

Another issue that was brought up during the meeting is the topic of Intellectual Property, which involves Chinese companies’ infringement on American businesses, including a company named American Superconductor Corporation. This company has its sales dropped dramatically after its Chinese partner named Sinovel has bribed an employee of the American company to steal its patent technology. However, the Sinovel has also countersued and the matter has not been resolved until this day.          Another issue discussed in the conference is China’s legal problem in Tibet and Xinjiang. Actually the case of Tibet is terrible. In Tibet, there are torture and unusually strict rule. Many people are suffering from this law system. Xinjiang is almost the same situation. In other legal problem, China is constructed by a lot of illegal imitation products like Chinese Disneyland. They are permitted because there is almost no law in China. Chinese law structure is not ready. If Mr. Xi agrees United States’ opinion to revise Chinese law, illegal products would be deleted by own law. This would be big loss for China. This is the reason why Mr. Xi can’t agree easily, I guess.

Another reason why America shows offensive attitude against China is regarding the recent incident on the United Nations Security Council. Recently, China and Russia veto the resolution and they couldn’t stop the Assad Administration of Syria which continues the military power suppression to an organization group. The United States believe that this is a wrong decision for China given that they are a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Given their decision to veto the resolution, I believe that the Council should revoke China’s permanent membership.

In my opinion, China has a lot of power of productivity than my country Japan. Recently, Japanese people tend to go outside of Japan to start new business because Chinese people come to Japan to study and work. Judging from Chinese GDP, China is better than Japan as permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. However, China needs to learn and abide the law and ethics of international business if they wish to flourish. I believe that if China learned the law and have an effective ethics in their conduction of business with other countries, they can exceed their economic goals.
