Programmed decision

Assignment (Chapter 5-Marketing)

Yoichi Horibe

I read all of chapter 5 and found a lot of interesting part so I would like to highlight some important points and focus on two important points deeply. The chapter explained nonprogrammed and programmed decisions. Programmed decision is very convenient because it is repetitive and routine. If we solve the problem once, we would use the method eternally. The way of solving these problem is to separate some parts so we can solve it step by step. Nonprogrammed is for bland new decision which we have never implemented this case so we don’t have any experience about it.
Secondly, manager’s emotion influences their decisions. The emotion is like retaliation. Actually, my decision that I chose this school is kind of retaliation because this is a good way that I could get some special ability like improving second language to compete and defeat somebody who ignored me in the past.  I think many people might have a similar experience rightly or wrongly. However, sometimes we have to restrain anger emotion which can hinder their logical thinking. Controlling the emotion is very important because a lack of this leads to bounded rationality.

Thirdly, cooperating with other member is a healthy way to solve a problem that would cause on argument. If you have to make many decisions, you might be likely to rely on intuition and hunch. It is important not to rely bad emotion without logical thinking. Staff members may provide many types of solutions for manager and the manager will evaluate these proposals then decide on the most suitable one for the situation.

There are many facter that influence decision making. Anchoring is particularly impressive to me because I am likely to place a lot of value on first information but I learned it is just one of criterion in the decision process.

In conclusion, I learn about problem solving and decision making which are very important tools for manager in the decision making process. My weakness is controlling emotion so I would like to read some more books on the subject.
