Monopily DF
hello everyone! I would like to write
down my perspectives
and I think new monopolies and
oligopolies will emerge from other countries in this era.
·
Do any companies appear to have a true
monopoly in their business area?
According to Microsoft monopoly, a
surge of free software enables other competitors to enter their market and
Antitrust laws doesnt let them occupy their market illegally.
·
What would competitors do if a monopoly
formed?
If we conduct M&A for it, we
can provide new technology for other company's product. For example, Sprint
Nextel is supposed to be provided high-speed wireless network by Tokyo-based
mobile phone company Softbank Corp due to selling 70% stocks to them. They can
beat an oligopoly which is created by AT&T and Verizon.
·
How would the apparent monopoly fight back,
i.e, how would they argue that they are NOT a monopoly?
For the Japanese company, They are
able to gain a profit without being in American market because they have 70%
stocks. They would not help them directly even if Sprint Nextel actually wins
at monopoly.
·
Based on recent history, how would the US
government react? (Note: This is not an opinion question. Look at how the US
government has acted recently.
Back to the case of Microsoft, they
used to sell their OS with Office and IE to competitors because Microsoft dont
want to let them make compatible product. Microsoft lost a suit concerning
antitrust laws but this judgement took 12 years. The reason is US government
protected MS for their huge corporation tax . Government has to protect their
nation but there was some paladox.
